Liverpool University Press history - Liverpool interest

Liverpool University Press also publishes a number of titles which focus on the city of Liverpool and its history. More than many other British cities, Liverpool has a distinctly international feel to its history. By being located on an important port, it became a focus for emigration, immigration and slavery. LUP has a great local publishing list, including some key publications about the city, including Liverpool 800: Culture, Character and History edited by John Belchem.

Liverpool's unique history

Within this edition, it disucsses the many feathers to Liverpool’s bow, including being the European Capital of Culture in 2008. This edition is written by a number of experts who all use the most recent historical research to investigate the city’s unique character. It’s a unique biography of the city, charting the political, economical and cultural change over the past 800 years.

This book studies Liverpool from all angles. It has been referred to as “a black spot on the Mersey” by some and “the centre of consciousness of the human universe”. It includes over 300 illustrations, several of which have not been published before.
